Step into the Gibson Pewter Shop and step back in time. Visitors will see second-generation pewterer, Jonathan Gibson—one of America’s premiere pewterers—at work with antique tools and machinery in the same 200-year old post-and-beam barn where he apprenticed as a young boy in the picturesque historic hilltop village of Hillsborough Center, NH. The Gibson Pewter Shop, a Yankee Magazine Travel Guide Editor’s Pick, is a great reason to visit New England. Sign up to enter our monthly raffle online.

Each lead-free piece is made with hands-on care, whether cast, hammered, or spun. Over 100 pieces of traditional and contemporary designs are available for sale. Baby cups, dinner ware, candlesticks, lamps, jewelry and ornaments are all popular items. Wedding registry with Gibson Pewter is a unique gift choice. And, the porringers and tea service fashioned after historic pieces hark back to time-honored New England values.

Jon is a state juried member of the League of N.H. Craftsmen. He has also been named by Early American Life Magazine among the top 200 traditional craftsmen for the 15th year. The Gibson Fruit Bowl and Wood-grain Beaker were the only pieces of 20th century pewter taken into the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

New Products
This year, Gibson Pewter has added the beautiful Queen Anne Tea Service to our collection of products. The service includes the new Queen Anne Teapot (with or without feet), a creamer, sugar bowl, and a tray with beaded edge. We have also added our entire line of Pewter Jewelry to our website, where you can see wonderfully detailed images of our custom-designed earrings, and more.

Gibson Pewter was founded in 1966 by Raymond Gibson and run as a seasonal family “cottage” business for more than 20 years. Settled in 1769, Hillsborough Center also has over a dozen 18th and 19th century homes, two churches, a clubhouse and intact one-room schoolhouse making it a worthwhile leisurely visit.

The shop is open year round: Monday – Saturday, 10am – 4pm. Sunday by chance. (Pewter shop is open Sundays in July & August) Visitors are welcome to watch work in progress. Gibson Pewter works to keep the age old craft of pewtering alive!
